Tapped In is an online educational environment that can be used by teachers and students to communicate. We used it to chat with each other and to chat with experts in their feilds of Science.

Here are just a few bits from the  transcripts -

For this chat the US students stayed back at school until 7pm to chat.

CarolSL joined the room.
TristanGst9: hi
AdrianB: Nice to see you Carol

DionGst10 smiles
KenGst14: This is Ken , Cameron and Jake from USA.
CarolSL: Hi folks we have quite a few students here.

Here's a transcript with an Australian Science Consultant. She was sitting
at her desk in York St Sydney and we were 1000kms away. Then Carol dropped in from the US as well. :)
DebraGst2: i wish i had a picture of you and your class mates it is
quite funny talking to you with only a picture of Adrian in front of me
RiverGst1: what do you think about the bouncing egg script?
DebraGst2: I loved the bouncing egg, especially the bit you have added
in about parachutes and air resistance 'cause that's usually what the
people who don't belive you will bring up as an example
JaviGst5: Adrian is working on a class photo
DebraGst2: the sort of science i like best if i'm teaching it to others
is physics and chemistry but i like to read about biology etc for my
own enjoyment

RiverGst1: cool
CarolSL joined the room.
AdrianB: Hi carol
AdrianB: Debra, Carol is our team mate in the US
RiverGst1: did you like the egg jokes
JulesGst6 smiles
DebraGst2: thanks for talking. i just got your class photo. what a cool
and groovy bunch of scientists you are
AdrianB: I just printed out Debra's picture and placed it
in a frame for hanging on the wall :)
DebraGst2: I am laughing but only in the belief that Adrian is not
being truthful
HollyGst1: he really does have it in a frame : )

...DebraGst2:Do you think it might be worth mentioning air pressure
here so that later when you are trying to explain what the ballon is
doing you can also talk about 'pushes' caused by the difference in air
pressure
SavanahGst5: we might do that naomi

DebraGst2: Yes, I think it is very clever and certainly gives science
the WOW! factor
CarolSL: My students certainly appreciate that WOW factor and have
enjoyed trying your scripts

CarolSL: It is raining and a little chilly . We actually had a freeze
night before last and that usually doesn't happen before January. We're
usually warm and humid almost year round
AdrianB: Debra this is the last 20min rotation in group work
AdrianB: Carol the scripts are on the way
ChrisGst1: eeeaaahhh, cold!
AdrianB: via email as we type

JavanGst3: Debra this is Minh I work with adrian & I have to tell you
that your pic is indeed on the wall.
ZenGst7: do u think the script good
CarolSL: Thanks we're looking forward to trying your scripts. I won't
see my students again till Monday.

DebraGst2: Zen, I don't even think of it as studying science anymore I
just see science in everything and everywhere around me and it never
ceases to fascinate me. That probably sounds pretty corny and old
fashioned but it's true.
AdrianB: awe and wonder are great things!

CarolSL: I need to be signing off now. My family is anxious to be off
for our Thanksgiving feast. It was great getting to talk to you guys

AdrianB: How would you see other schools using these resources once we
get them online?
AdrianB: Thanks for your time Debra. We have to head to some other
activities
JavanGst3: Bye Deb really enjoyed the whole process - the kids were
totlly engaged at this end -minh
ChrisGst1: seeya, thanks 4 your time
ZenGst7: bye and thanks for chatting with us carol and debra
DebraGst2: For teachers who have even a tiny bit of your creativity,
the possibilities are broad. An easy first step would be to have groups
of students prepare and perform the scripts your class have written
AdrianB: I'll send you a transcript of the session and I'd love to have
a phone chat with you about this soon.
